The protonation of dmipa results in the effective migration of its methyl group to other nitrogen-containing compounds in the gas phase.N, n-dimethylisopropylamine can be used as alkylation reagent to prepare N-methylaniline by palladium catalyzed methylation of N-aniline under microwave irradiation. It can also be used to prepare higher alcohol ionic liquid by reaction with azide acid.
