Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) is involved in providing rigidity to the cell membrane?via hexagonal phase structures, which promote tight packing of the?membrane bilayer formed by?phosphotidylcholine.?It is also involved in the conversion of prions from the non-toxic?to toxic conformation. PE also?initiates the autophagosome formation by attaching covalently to the?autophagy?Atg8?protein.
